Manchester in England is the home of two football giants too big to coexist together and the Derby match makes the coexistence of their fans harder than it already is.

Derby Match

Fans around the globe and even in Manchester are anticipating the 191st Manchester Derby in the history of both clubs.

On Sunday, October 29, 2023, the Red Devils will host their neighbors in one of the most fierce derbies in football history at their home ground Old Trafford which is the ‘theater of dreams’. In this article, I will share with you guys the top 5 most memorable moments of the Derby between the ‘Red Devils’ and the ‘citizens’.

5. Robin Van Persie’s Last-Minute Winner:

In December of the year 2012, the derby match looked to be slipping away from the hands of Sir Alex Ferguson and his Manchester United players after Wayne Rooney put them two goals ahead in the game.

Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure scored to cancel out Wayne Rooney’s two to make the game 2-2 heading to the final whistle on that fateful day.

Robin van Persie’s last-minute free-kick handed the Red Devils a 3-2 win in what paved the way for Manchester United’s last English Premier League trophy. That game also turned out to be Van Persie’s last Manchester Derby, hence it was an unforgettable moment in the history of the Red Devils.

4. Vincent Kompany’s Title-Winner:

In 2012, the Citizens won their first title in 44 years after Vincent Kompany’s title-winning goal in what is one of the saddest moments for the Red Devils and the happiest moment in the history of their neighbors.

Manchester United were strolling to the title that year but suddenly slipped after a 4-4 draw against Everton, which gave the citizens a shot at winning their first title in ages.

3. City Destroyed The Red Devils 6-1:

This one is going to be remembered for ages to come because of the ‘Why always me’ T-shirt celebration that was pulled out by Mario Balotelli after giving the citizens the lead against Manchester United in the 2011/2012 Premier League campaign.

The game ended in a disaster for the Red Devils after Jonny Evans got sent off for a foul in the early minutes of the second half. The citizens scored 5 in the last 30 minutes of the game to give the rivals a humiliating and unforgettable defeat in the Derby.

2. Owen’s Late Winner:

This is our top 2 moment of the fierce Manchester Derby. Craig Bellamy’s late goal in the 90th minute of the game set the table for shared spoils as the game is now 3-3 and the citizens were happy to go home with at least a point. But, sadly for them, Michael Owen’s last-minute winner spoiled the party.

It was another Fergie time goal for the Red Devils that will forever be in the hearts of the Red Devils.

1. Wayne Rooney’s Magical Moment:

This is the top moment in the history of the Manchester Derby for me. The Red Devils looked to have drawn the game in the derby of February 2011 but there came Wayne Rooney with the magic feet to give the Red Devils the win.

Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick saves the day for the Reds after he puts Nani’s deflected cross past Joe Hart with a beautiful kick and an unforgettable goal celebration.
