This 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has been full of surprises since the start of the competition, and it became more of a surprise after the host county Ivory Coast who qualified as the best losers in their group knocked out the 2023 AFCON favorite Senegal who were group leaders in their group via a penalty shootout after a end to end 1-1 on the 29th of January 2023.
A lot of pundits and fans predicted a Senegal win in the round of 16 of the competition but were surprised at the end of the game with the host county coming out victorious.
Although the Senegal national team took the lead in the first few minutes of the game all thanks to Sadio Mane’s assist to Dailo in the 4 minute, Ivory Coast came from behind to draw level in the 86th minute of the game all thanks to a Kessie penalty.
The game went to extra time and was later decided on penalty where the host county won 5-4 to send their selves to the semi-finals of the competition.
South Africa surprised Morocco with a 2-0 win yesterday night to join the rest of the already-qualified teams in the semi-finals.
