The 2023 African Cup Of Nations just ended with the host country Ivory Coast the champions of the tournament. CAF has already started preparation for the next African Cup Of Nations which will be hosted by Morocco. 2025 AFCON

The just-concluded African Cup Of Nations in which Ivory Coast came out victorious was supposed to be played in June/July of 2023, but the competition was moved to early 2024 due to poor weather conditions in Ivory Coast.

So, the African Cup of Nations that was concluded on the 11th of February 2024 is the 2023 edition of the competition. Since AFCON is played every two years, there will be another tournament of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.

The official date on which the competition will commence is yet to be revealed by CAF, but the host of the 2025 edition of the tournament will be Morocco.

Below, here is everything you need to know about the preliminary round of the 2025 AFCON which will kick off in 2025 in Morocco.

The draw of the preliminary round of the 2025 AFCON will be done on the 20th of February 2024, and it will take place in Egypt.

Only 8 counties will contest in the preliminary round of the competition in which 4 out of the 8 will qualify for the main competition.

The eight countries are Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, and Eswatini.

The eight countries are presently the countries with the lowest FIFA ranking in the world.

The preliminary round will take the format of a home and away which will see 4 teams qualify for the main event at the end of the short tournament.

The preliminary round will kick off on the 18th of March 2024 and will come to an end on the 26th of March 2024.

Lastly, the four countries that qualified will be eligible to play in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers which will feature 48 different countries.

In case it has skipped your mind, the host of the 2025 African Cup of Nations will be Morocco, and the official date for commencing the tournament is yet to be communicated by CAF.
